Holy Habits: The Prayer Habit

Published by LEV Church | Series: Holy Habits | Week 2 Recap

Prayer is not just something we do. It’s how we breathe spiritually. In Week 2 of our Holy Habits series, we explored the essential discipline of prayer—not as a ritual, but as a rhythm that aligns us with the heart of God.

We were blessed to begin the service with a powerful encouragement from Elaine Hibbert, our Prayer Shield leader at LEV Church. Elaine shared her personal journey of rediscovering prayer—not as a boring or intimidating task, but as a life-giving conversation with God. Her passion for corporate intercession and national revival set the tone for a message that called us all back to the foundation of our faith.

The Call to Prayer

Pastor Pat reminded us that prayer is not optional for followers of Christ—it’s vital. Using Acts 1:12–14 and Acts 2:41–43, he showed us that the early church didn’t just talk about prayer—they devoted themselves to it. They prayed together, with one heart and one purpose. And the result? Unity, power, and supernatural breakthrough.

From Communication to Communion

Prayer begins with communication, but it must move to communion—a deeper exchange of heart, not just words. Many Christians stop short at communication, but it’s in communion with God that intimacy grows and transformation begins.

“Prayer becomes lifeless when it's all monologue. But when we listen—when we allow it to become dialogue—it becomes spiritual breath to our souls.”
– Pastor Pat

Jesus Modeled the Habit of Prayer

Jesus didn’t just teach about prayer—He prioritized it. Scripture shows Him rising early, praying alone, praying with others, and even spending entire nights in prayer. His rhythm wasn’t built around prayer as an afterthought—it was centered on it.

The Church’s Weapon of Air Superiority

In a powerful analogy, Pastor Pat compared prayer to an air assault before a ground battle. When spiritual warfare intensifies, prayer gains air dominance—disrupting the enemy's infrastructure and paving the way for victory in every other area of life and ministry.

If we are only fighting on the ground—through effort, strategy, or human strength—without air support through prayer, we’ll often find ourselves exhausted and ineffective.

How to Build the Habit of Prayer

If you're struggling to develop a consistent prayer life, start here:

  1. Make Room – Carve out regular time in your day to pray.

  2. Find a Prayer Partner – Connect with a mature believer and grow together.

  3. Join a Prayer Group – LEV’s Prayer Shield meets Wednesdays from 6–7pm.

  4. Start Small – Pray in short intervals and take time to listen. God wants to speak more than you realize.

Prayer doesn’t require perfection—just participation. Whether your prayers are structured, whispered, or wordless groans, God is listening.

Prayer Is Power, Not Performance

“Holy habits don’t earn salvation—they make room for transformation.”
– Pastor Eddie

Prayer isn’t just one more spiritual task. It’s the lifeline that keeps us rooted in God’s presence and responsive to His voice. It connects us to Heaven and activates our authority on Earth.

In a world marked by chaos, compromise, and confusion, the Church must be awakened. Not with better programming, but with deeper prayer.

Join the Movement

Prayer Shield meets every Wednesday at 6PM in the Family Room at LEV Church. Whether you’ve never prayed out loud or you’re a seasoned intercessor, there’s a place for you.

“You're His child. He will never leave you or forsake you. And He’s always ready to meet with you in prayer.”

Let’s be a church known not just for talking about God, but for talking with Him.
