Holy Habits: A Call Back to Surrender and Intimacy
Published by LEV Church
What comes to mind when you hear the word “holiness”? For many, it feels like a far-off standard—something only a few deeply spiritual people can attain. But that’s not how God sees it. In fact, holiness was His original design for humanity. In the beginning, God created people to live in holy communion with Him—set apart not because of their behavior, but because of their relationship.
In our new series Holy Habits, we kicked things off by confronting the uncomfortable tension that surrounds holiness. Often misunderstood as legalism or unreachable perfection, holiness is actually rooted in one powerful word: surrender.
Holiness Isn’t About Performance
We’ve learned to attach holiness to religious effort or external behavior. But holiness isn’t earned. It’s not about working harder—it’s about surrendering deeper. The holy life is a life laid down before God, allowing Him to transform us from the inside out.
“Be holy, because I am holy.” – 1 Peter 1:16
This command isn’t a demand for flawless living. It’s an invitation to become what you were made to be. Holiness doesn’t push you away from God—it pulls you closer. The more we surrender, the more we experience His presence, peace, and purpose.
Holy Habits Aren’t Checklists—They’re Pathways to Intimacy
So where do Holy Habits come in?
Spiritual disciplines like prayer, fasting, Sabbath, generosity, and worship aren’t boxes to check. They are sacred rhythms that rewire our dependency—not toward the world, but toward the Father. These habits re-form our hearts. They slow us down. They teach us to trust. They lead us to live less from self-reliance and more from surrendered intimacy.
Holy habits are not a path to self-help. They’re a pathway to divine transformation.
God’s Plan Hasn’t Changed
From Eden to Exodus, from the cross to the Church today, God has always longed for a people who walk in holiness—people set apart for His purposes, shaped by His Spirit, and known by their intimacy with Him.
Holiness isn’t outdated. It isn’t oppressive. It’s still God’s heart. And in a world of shallow noise and self-sufficiency, choosing a life of surrender may be the most radical thing you can do.
As we continue this journey in the coming weeks, we’ll look at practical holy habits and how they help us live differently—not just for God, but with Him.
Reflection Questions:
What have you believed about holiness that might need to be unlearned?
In what area of your life is God inviting you to surrender?
What holy habit is He calling you to begin—not for performance, but for deeper intimacy?
