Stand Firm in Evil Days — Message from Missionary Jean Ngirwe

LEV Church — Missionary Update from Uganda

This Sunday we were blessed by a powerful word from Jean Ngirwe, a missionary sent from LEV Church to Uganda. Speaking from Ephesians 5–6, Jean called the church to wake up, live wisely, and stand firm in the evil days—anchored in Christ and strengthened by the Holy Spirit.

Living Awake in Evil Days

Jean reminded us of Paul’s exhortation in Ephesians 5:14–16:

“Wake up… Be very careful how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.”

We don’t drift into holiness or boldness—we choose it. Knowing the days are evil, we must walk wisely, reject compromise, and seize every moment for the Kingdom.

From Home to Warfare: The Flow of Ephesians

Jean highlighted the intentional order Paul uses in Ephesians:

  • Ephesians 5 — Live wisely. Walk in love. Honor Christ in your marriage and family.

  • Ephesians 6:1–9 — Children obey parents; parents disciple children; serve faithfully in work relationships.

  • Ephesians 6:10–18 — Then … stand strong and put on the full armor of God.

Before God equips us for battle, He forms our heart and our home.
Spiritual strength begins with spiritual order.

Strength in the Name of Jesus

Jean reminded us that our strength comes not from willpower, but from the joy of the Lord and the power found in the name of Jesus:

  • Healing is in His name

  • Deliverance is in His name

  • Salvation is in His name

  • Every knee bows to His name

To “be strong in the Lord” means to stay rooted in His presence and His Word, declaring the name of Jesus over our lives.

Standing in God’s Standard

Jean shared a powerful insight about the word stand:

To stand means to stand in God's standard—His laws, His precepts, His Word.
When we stand under God’s standard, we stand unshakable.

Like Moses at the Red Sea, like Job in suffering, and like David in distress…
When we have done everything—we stand.

When You Can’t Feel the Hand of God

There are seasons where we look to the left and right and do not see God’s hand. But even in silence, His hand is still at work.

Jean reminded us of four truths about the hand of God:

  1. Provision — God supplies all our needs

  2. Protection — He is our refuge and shield

  3. A Guide — He leads us in righteousness

  4. Preparation — He shapes us for purpose

When we feel nothing, see nothing, and hear nothing—we still stand, knowing God never stops working.

The Standard Raised Against the Enemy

Quoting Isaiah 59:19, Jean reminded us:

“When the enemy comes in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord will lift up a standard against him.”

In ancient battle, a standard (banner) carried testimony of past victories.
When the enemy sees what God has already brought you through, he trembles.

Your trial will become your banner.
Your pain will become your testimony.
Your battle will become your victory story.

Call to Respond

Jean closed by praying for those in a heavy season who need to see the hand of God move again. Even when you can’t see God’s hand—you can trust His heart. Your standing is not in vain.

“After you have done everything—to stand.”

Stand firm. Stand in His Word. Stand in His strength.
