Special Oil and Our Lives – A Message from Elder Jean Ngirwe

This past Sunday, our Elder and Missionary, Jean Ngirwe, brought a powerful message titled “Special Oil and Our Lives.” Alongside updates from his recent mission trip to Africa, he reminded us of the anointing God has prepared for His people—a sacred oil meant to set us apart for His purpose.

Mission Updates: God at Work in Africa

Elder Jean shared testimony after testimony from the recent mission trip to Kenya and Uganda:

  • Kibera, Nairobi – In the second largest slum in the world (4 million people), our team ministered to over 700 children, providing school supplies, mentorship, and the hope of the Gospel.

  • New Churches Planted – In both Kenya and Uganda, churches are being built and strengthened. In one village, an entire congregation lifted their hands to receive Christ during an altar call.

  • Leadership & Marriage Conferences – Over 150 couples attended marriage retreats, and more than 150 leaders were trained in God’s Word.

  • Agricultural Miracles – While drought devastated much of Uganda, seeds sown through your support produced harvests for local churches. God is providing both physically and spiritually!

Through these stories, Elder Jean reminded us that our prayers, financial support, and faith are bearing real fruit in communities around the world.

The Word: Special Oil and Our Lives

Drawing from Exodus 30:22–26 and 2 Timothy 2:20–21, Elder Jean unpacked the biblical image of special oil—a holy anointing prepared by God through carefully blended ingredients.

God instructed Moses to mix myrrh, cinnamon, calamus, and cassia into a fragrant oil. Each ingredient teaches us something about the Christian life:

  • Myrrh – Sweet-smelling but bitter in taste. Life’s trials may be painful, but when surrendered to God, they release a fragrance that pleases Him.

  • Cinnamon – Obtained by scratching the bark. Sometimes life’s “scratches” produce the sweetest aroma of faith and endurance.

  • Calamus – A reed that bends with the wind. Just as calamus moves with the breeze, we are called to move with the Spirit of God, not resist Him.

  • Cassia – A flower that bows when filled with oil. True anointing leads us to humility and worship, bowing before the Lord as the source of all power.

The message was clear: God is preparing His people to be vessels of His anointing. Through crushing, pressing, and surrender, His Spirit produces a fragrance that impacts others and glorifies His name.

Key Takeaway

Our lives are not just meant to endure hardship—they are meant to carry God’s anointing into our homes, churches, and communities. When God’s special oil is upon us, His presence becomes contagious: everyone who encounters us can experience His Spirit.

As Elder Jean reminded us:

“Receive the anointing that God is about to pour on His church. Be contagious—not in a COVID way, but in a Holy Spirit way!”

Final Challenge

Are you allowing God to prepare you? Will you embrace the crushing, scratching, and pressing that produces His fragrance in your life?

This week, pray:
“Lord, anoint me with Your special oil. Let my life be a sweet fragrance to You and a blessing to others.”
